Somerville has developed her painting
by focusing on the aesthetic of colour.
For her, colour provides the expressive medium with which to probe
and stimulate psychic and emotional values.
The path for Somerville is an ongoing journal of colour based upon the recurring seasons as a metaphor
for death and rebirth.

The paintings vary in style by combining the constructs of abstraction
and realism. Somerville fuses all of this with interplays of colour,
lines of movement and surface textures to compose a visual event.
Since forming Herringbroom Studio in 1992 as an artist based teaching
centre, Somerville continues her work both in the UK and in Canada. |
